Title: Bitcointalk Forum Advertising
Post by: togoshigekata on January 16, 2018, 05:16:21 PM
I propose that we place a banner ad on the Bitcointalk forum for ~8-11 days
(but wait until we have an exchange back online)

Bitcointalk currently has 1,686,605 Members
and is now ranked a top 1,000 website globally by Alexa

===

I noticed the Bitcointalk Forum has ads every now and then inbetween thread posts,
there is an auction held by an admin every ~8-11 days,
there are 9 slots, minimum bid is 0.02 BTC, bids can only be multiples of 0.02 BTC

Current Round #233: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2716553.0
https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adinfo
https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adstats

Each slot gets 2-4+ million impressions over 8-11 days

===

Previous Winning Bids:

Auction #232
4 0.14 ChipMixer
2 0.12 Blocklancer
3 0.10 Aengus

Auction #231
3 0.14 FortuneJack
4 0.14 ChipMixer
2 0.12 Aengus

So this would come out to ~1.5k-2k for one slot for 2-4 million impressions over 8-11 days

===

The banner ad has to be HTML/CSS (and not just an image file),

Our Logo Design files: https://www.reddit.com/r/BiblePay/comments/7asnaa/new_coin_logo_zip_of_images/

BiblePay Colors: Red (Maroon) #971b20, Yellow (Gold) #e2ae24, White #ffffff

Potential Banner Ad Contents:
BiblePay Symbol and Name
"10% of mined coins go to Charity"
"Masternodes now live"

Potential Links:
Main Website: http://biblepay.org/
Bitcointalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2388064.0
Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/BiblePay/
Twitter: https://twitter.com/BiblePay

===

Current Banner Ad (In Progress):

fox123me:
http://fozy.altervista.org/bbp-banner.html

The previous banner by fox123me was rejected for being one large image,
so he changed it to be just a small image for the logo/name
and the rest is CSS, he requested help with the CSS though, hes totally new to it

Reddit thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/BiblePay/comments/7ndg5g/bitcointalk_banner_ad_need_htmlcss_skills/

===

QUESTIONS:

1. What should the banner say? What should it look like?

2. Should we have multiple links?

3. Anyone with CSS skills that could help?
3a. What is a good way to find someone with CSS skills?

4. Is the cost worth the amount of impressions?

Z. Any feedback? concerns? ideas? Anything I missed?

Okay, I found a CSS professional. Do you know the best way to contact fox123me?

https://www.reddit.com/user/fox123me

fox was also okay with someone taking his work and running with it,
so fox doesnt neccessairly have to be in the loop per se

This was the 1st banner that was rejected for being a full image: http://fozy.altervista.org/banner.html
But it looks a lot nicer then the current CSS one: http://fozy.altervista.org/bbp-banner.html

Fox hasn't responded to my message, so I guess I'm gonna do this on my own. I have no idea what I have to do though. Does someone know what the requirements for the banner are, or where I can find them?

I shall than adjust the banner to make sure it's ready when needed.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for (haven't been around for very long here on the forums) but this is what I had seen that had some requirements:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2785868.0

Also it seems dimension-wise, most of them are 900px x 40px if you cared for that information as well.

Bad News on this, Theymos the head forum admin and the one who runs the advertising campaign every week, he rejected BiblePay saying that we are an ICO

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2785959.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2795166

So I took the steps he requested and sent him 2 messages afterwards explaining we are not an ICO, but he has not responded in a very long time... I feel like we are being targeted/discriminated against, and on top of that, adrianbits, a known hater of the project, keeps bashing the public Meta thread calling us a scam, I cant set a Meta thread as moderated sadly.

Thanks for the link Laurie :) And adrianbits is a sour person, don't know why...

Togo, if you ever get an approval, I'll look at the banner. Just let me know.

You can simply delete the thread and that's what I would do, because what is the purpose of that thread now?

But yeah, this looks like discrimination of sorts, I am refusing to believe that theymos, with so many years of experience in the field, can say that we're an ICO. And he will not take a second look. I don't know what to say...

I dont think I can delete a thread, I think I can only delete the original post and change the title,
I think only admins can delete threads sadly

====

I just sent Theymos another message, I havent heard back from him for over 2 weeks,
I compiled all the previous messages together to give him a recap, hopefully I will be able to change his mind

Hello everybody,

Sorry for the delay in replying your messages, but I've had some setbacks.
I tried to make a dynamic banner, but the result is a disaster. I hope that with the help of your friend Jaap you can do a good job.
As I have already explained to Togo I'm not a programmer and I don't mean CSS or anything else. In fact, the first test 'banner1' contains many syntax errors, while the second test 'banner2' has a better script.  I have looked at examples from Bitcointalk and I have made some changes according to their suggestions.

Here you can see the result of my efforts:

http://fozy.altervista.org/banner1.html
http://fozy.altervista.org/banner2.html

Please, let me know if I can help you in any way.
Sorry for my bad english.

- I attach script.
Remark: remember to modify href of link in the HTML, with your CSS file URL.

Thanks fox! Looks very nice.

If the bitcointalk ad campaign gets a green light in the future, I'll make sure the banners are compliant and without errors :)

Theymos just rejected another Masternode coin from advertising, Argo Coin,
I dont think we are going to be able to change his mind any time soon.
Im going to give up on this for now,
I went through most of the history of these auctions, Ive never seen any coins advertised, its all cryptocurrency services: coin mixing, gambling, exchanges, etc
Im not sure if coins just dont know about this or what,
If we could get an advertisement on this it would be HUGE, but I dont think its going to happen, sorry.

My last post I wrote to him that he ignored:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2857537.msg29899769#msg29899769

His new ICO rules:
"[1]: For the purposes of forum ads, an ICO is any token, altcoin, or other altcoin-like thing which meets any of the following criteria: it is primarily run/backed by a company; it is substantially, fundamentally centralized in either operation or coin distribution; or it is not yet possible for two unprivileged users of the system to send coins directly to each other in a P2P way. The intention here is to allow community efforts to advertise things like Litecoin, but not to allow ICO funding, even when the ICO is disguised in various ways." -Theymos

===

Do any of you know if there are other places we can advertise? Other popular cryptocurrency forums? etc?

Hi Togo,

I'll let you know if I find any popular cryptocurrency forum.

I am attaching the files of the last banner, so you can modify and use it as you wish, now it's yours.

Phore, a masternode coin, a fork of PIVX, got 2 banner ads on bitcointalk for Round #240 last week
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3218541.msg34322333#msg34322333

This is great news, meaning Theymos has opened up to masternode coins

I dont think we have the funding right now,
1 ad slot is going to cost about 0.26 BTC ($2,100)

But there is hope now,
Im tempted to bring it up in the current ad banner auction thread and see if we have the go ahead, Im not sure what to do

We were rejected again by Theymos on June 20th
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4471292.msg40517470#msg40517470

Quote
Rejected. I've decided that masternode coins can sometimes be acceptable, but Biblepay seems highly deceptive. For example, you say "10% of the emission goes to sponsoring Orphans, with provable contributions," but:
 - 10% of the monthly emission should be somewhere around 6 million coins, but the monthly trade volume tends to be only slightly higher than this, which is unbelievable if you're actually selling the coins in order to make donations.
 - This 10% goes to a hardcoded non-multisig address with no explanation.
 - "THE COIN HAS RPC COMMANDS THAT PROVE 100% OF CONTRIBUTIONS ARE SPENT THE WAY INTENDED" is completely false. The RPC command just totals up all of the payments to the hardcoded address. What happens after the coins go to that address is unexplained.
 - There is no non-profit registration, receipts for donations, any info about the people who are supposedly facilitating donations, etc.

Biblepay looks like a generic coin with hardcoded dev subsidy plus some probably-totally-fabricated marketing about orphans.

Is 501c3 status at the federal level being pursued for the BiblePay Foundation? If so, a pdf of the letter of exemption might be good to provide. This would be in addition to the Texas SOS registration that you note is in place.

Even if the application is currently in process (i.e. has been filled out and mailed in to the IRS with the corresponding application fee), you can show a copy of the initial letter they send (showing that the application has been received) or just state that the IRS non-profit exemption has been applied for and is currently pending.

"Still no. I'd probably only be comfortable with BiblePay if a lot more info, news, and third-party reviews of your practices come out. As-is, I'm not particularly convinced by your responses to my previous concerns (though admittedly I don't have time to spend more than a few minutes looking at it), and I see a lot of red flags. If I was convinced that BiblePay was like "Litecoin with a bible theme and a donation thing", then I'd probably allow it."
